Ford Bronco Sport, Explorer Earn 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+

Two of the most popular SUVs available at Riverside Ford are also two of the safest vehicles on the road today. The new Ford Bronco Sport and Explorer both earned the Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety - the highest honor IIHS hands out.

In order to earn the Top Safety Pick+, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport and Explorer both had to perform exceptionally in a range of tests. That includes earning good scores in the six IIHS crashworthiness tests and advanced or superior scores for front crash prevention. To get that extra plus mark, a vehicle must only offer headlights rated acceptable or good. The Bronco Sport's headlights scored good ratings while the two headlight options for the Explorer were both rated acceptable.

Vehicles with at least one headlight option rated acceptable or good qualify for the Top Safety Pick. In total, five Ford vehicles earned this award: the Edge, Escape, F-150 SuperCab, F-150 SuperCrew®, and Mustang Mach-E. That makes seven vehicles from the 2022 Ford lineup that have earned IIHS safety honors so far.
